Talia Casares is being remembered for the lasting impact she had on her students. The sixth grade teacher at Moroni Elementary School was named Utah’s 2027 Teacher of the Year on Sept. 3. She received a $10,000 award and was preparing to represent Utah in a national competition next year. Casares died unexpectedly less than 2 weeks after receiving the honor. Casares was originally from Mexico City and earned a master’s degree in Spanish pedagogy from Brigham Young University.

Paul Lyke, a 19 year old officer with the Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety, rushed to help a sanitation worker who suffered a serious arm injury.
