10 Year Old Boy Receives Bravery Award After Saving Baby Sister From Fire

10 year old Ollie Brunskill is being praised for helping protect his family during a house fire. Ollie spotted a large flame coming from the kitchen and immediately alerted his mother Stacey. He then picked up his baby sister and carried her outside to safety. His mother contained the fire with a fire blanket and extinguisher while a neighbor called emergency services.

Ollie later received a certificate of bravery from Education Minister Jo Palmer in front of his classmates at Summerdale Primary School. His principal said recent fire safety training may have helped Ollie know how to respond during the emergency. Ollie said he stayed calm because he did not want his mother to panic. The family later learned the fire was caused by a mandoline slicer that had accidentally been left on a hot plate.
